In memoriam
Dr. Jeanne Craig Sinkford
1933 – 2025
Dr. Jeanne Craig Sinkford was a pioneer in dentistry and a trailblazer for Black women dentists. She became the first woman to serve as dean of a U.S. dental school, leading Howard University College of Dentistry and reshaping dental education to be more inclusive.
Beyond the dean’s office, she was a mentor, a visionary, and a fierce advocate for women and underrepresented minorities in the profession. Her work with the American Dental Education Association and in national health policy opened doors for countless dentists who might otherwise have been overlooked.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to Dr. Sinkford, a pioneer in the world of dentistry for us as Black women dentists. Job well done.”Sistahs in Dentistry
Every door she opened is one we walk through together.
